Texas hold’em Basics

Texas hold’em is a variation – and one of the most popular forms – of the standard card game of poker. As far as online gambling activities go, it’s one of the more “strategically”-based ones, due to the number of times that players get to bet during a game.

Basically, this game consists of two cards that are dealt face down to each player, followed by the dealer placing five community cards —a series of three cards (known as “the flop”) then two additional single cards (“the turn” and “the river”). The players have the option to check, bet or fold after each deal – in other words, betting can occur before the flop, “on the flop,” “on the turn,” and “on the river.”

Just like all variants of poker, players can attempt to control the amount of money that’s in the “pot”, based on the hand that they hold. The main objective of winning players is not winning every single individual hand, but rather in making correct decision in terms of when and how much to bet, raise, call or fold. If they do so successfully, winning players maximize their expected gain during each round of betting, and subsequently maximize long-term winnings.

The game itself is divided into a series of deals or hands. At the end of each hand, the pot is usually awarded to one player. It’s possible that a hand might end at a showdown, and in those cases, the remaining players compare hands with the highest hand winning the pot.

Another way that a player can win is if all other players have folded their hands. In this case, THE “last man standing” wins the game…

If you’re new to the game, my advice is to practice, practice, practice. Online slots will always be there – but nothing beats an exciting poker game.
